I’ve been photographing Britain from the ground and from the air for more than 25 years.
Along the way I’ve built an archive containing places that have changed, buildings that have disappeared, huge engineering projects taking shape — and quite a few things I didn’t realise were important when I pressed the shutter.
Some photographs are new. Some have been sitting in negative boxes for twenty-five years waiting to be rediscovered.
This is where I bring them together — the photographs, the stories behind them, and occasionally the odd unexpected discovery.
Sometimes the most interesting thing is hidden in the corner of the picture.

A little about me

I’m Simon Burchett, a photographer who has spent more than 25 years looking at the world from slightly unusual angles — quite often from a few thousand feet up.
I started out in press and commercial photography, and over the years I’ve photographed everything from towns and coastlines to construction projects, aircraft, ships and landscapes. Much of it was simply work at the time. Years later, some of those photographs have become little pieces of history.
I still love making new photographs, but I’m equally fascinated by what’s already hiding in my archive — particularly the pictures I’d forgotten I’d taken.
For me, it has always been about looking properly. Because it’s all in the detail.
