About

I’m Simon Burchett, a photographer with an archive spanning more than 25 years.

Much of my work has documented places as they change — from towns and landscapes photographed from the air to major construction and railway engineering projects, working ports, ships and everyday scenes that have since disappeared.

What began as commercial and editorial photography has, with time, become something else: a photographic record of change. Places I photographed simply because they were interesting twenty or thirty years ago now have stories to tell.

This website brings that archive together with new photography and the stories behind the pictures — because sometimes the most interesting thing about a photograph is what happened before, after, or just outside the frame.
